Just like any other room in the house, it saves a lot of time and headache to keep a few tools stored for quick access and peace of mind. Have you ever used someone else’s bathroom and been a little nervous about the lack of a plunger, brush, or extra toilet paper? Here are some tools to keep around to help keep things in order.
5 Tools For Every Bathroom
Toilet Paper Holder
It may not be a tool in the hammer and screwdriver sense, but guests will appreciate a simple fixture like one of these. Keep it in a prominent location that doesn’t interfere with drawers, the walkway, or the toilet itself. When what’s left of the current roll isn’t enough, it’s awkward for everyone for a guest to have to snoop around for an extra roll.
Screwdriver
A simple screwdriver, sized to tighten the nylon screws of your toilet seat should be in every bathroom. People don’t like wobbly toilet seats, and the fix takes seconds. Look at the screws that hold your toilet seat on, and buy a cheap screwdriver that matches the size and shape, and keep it in a drawer or a small box in the cabinet under the sink.
Squeegee
Aside from being really fun to say, a squeegee is great for getting droplets of water off tub surrounds, mirrors, glass shower doors and more. A quick squeegee treatment can prevent hard water stains and keep glass shower doors clear. If you have pets and bathroom floor mats, you can even use a common household squeegee to remove pet hair. Just a few passes and you’ll be amazed at how much comes free.
Disinfectant Wipes
Keep these around to wipe down your toilet or other surfaces as the need arises, just make sure to throw them away in the garbage, don’t flush them. This is bad for sewer systems and far worse for septic systems and cesspools. The chemicals damage helpful bacteria and pile up in the bottom of the tank, making the tank fill up faster.
Toilet Plunger
This should be the most obvious one. You never know when your toilet is going to clog, so have one around and easy to reach. Don’t just get the cheapest one, try one with a modern design. Here’s another blog post about plungers to help you pick.
