New Septic Installation

Upgrade your waste management system

Septic Installation in Maui

If your home isn’t connected to the municipal sewer system, then you probably have a septic system or need one installed. While a private septic system provides some unique benefits, it also means that you need to know every detail about your waste management system — after all, you’re in charge of its health!

Maui Pumping Services knows that septic systems aren’t the most glamorous thing to think about, but they’re by far one of the most essential to Maui homeowners. When you need a septic system installed on your property, count on the team that will get the job done right. We ensure that your tank is installed and set up correctly, avoiding any unfortunate or messy consequences of amateur work. Find out more about your septic system installation below!

How Does A Septic Tank Work?

You might know that you need a septic system, but how does it work? All the waste that exits your home — from toilets to drains to tubs — flows into a large concrete, fiberglass or polyurethane tank: the septic tank. Inside the tank, the waste is treated, dividing the substance into solids (sludge) and liquids (effluent). The sludge is never allowed to exit the system, but the effluent (which is wastewater) is pushed out of the tank.

Using a series of perforated pipes, the effluent is released underground, becoming part of the ecosystem. This wastewater liquid contains nutrients, microorganisms, heavy metals, dissolved matter and other substances. The area above the perforated pipes, where the effluent is released, is called the leach field.

The waste that can’t be processed into wastewater is known as sludge. These solids slowly build up inside the tank, which is why septic tanks must be pumped every three to five years.

Pros & Cons Of A Septic System

Some homeowners inherit a house that already has a septic tank installed. If you’re trying to decide if a septic system installation is right for you, consider some of the advantages and disadvantages of septic systems.

Benefits of Septic Tanks

Do any of these sound like worthwhile perks for your home?

  • Proximity To Cities — If you live out in the country, this decision may be made for you by the availability of municipal sewer lines in the first place. A septic tank allows you to have more freedom when choosing where you want to live, no matter how far from the municipal system it is.
  • Avoid Sewage Costs — You can save quite a bit of money over the years without the cost of the city’s sewage on your bill. Even the expense of pumping and maintaining your tank every few years can be cheaper than the cost of city sewage fees!
  • Eco-Friendly Waste Management — When correctly maintained and cared for, septic tanks are much more environmentally friendly. They give back to the ecosystem!
  • Significant Lifespan — Septic tanks are designed to last for several decades!

Downsides of Septic Tanks

It should be noted that precautions must be taken to avoid any septic disasters, and you should be aware of the risks involved with installing your own waste management system.

  • Maintenance Costs — It may be less than municipal sewage, but you’re still looking at an expense to pump, clean and maintain your septic system over the years.
  • Risk Of Leaks — If not properly managed, sewage could leak into your groundwater or back up into your yard. This is especially important to avoid if you have a well because the water could be contaminated!
  • Drain Awareness — Everything you put down the drain ends up in your septic tank, so you might need to be a little more careful than you would be with the city’s sewage system.
  • Septic Replacement — The tank may last for decades, but it will eventually need to be replaced.
