Improve your Shower Habits
Showers use a lot of water, but there are ways to cut back. Here’s one: try to set an alarm on your phone to time your shower. Be sure to keep your phone on a shelf, sink countertop or other dry location while you shower, and set your alarm to be loud enough that you will hear it over the rushing of the water. You can also purchase a new shower head that might help save on water, too.
Purchase a New Toilet
Most toilets made in the last few years are designed to use less water when they flush. The money you save by using less water might eventually pay off the investment of buying a new toilet too! If you can’t afford to buy a new toilet right now, you could put a half-gallon jug filled with small stones or gravel inside your toilet tank to displace some of the water in your tank.
Use Faucet Aerators
A faucet aerator mixes the water coming out of your faucet with air so you can wash your hands and dishes with a smooth, controlled stream of water. You may find you don’t spend as much time washing your hands when you use it!
Size your Laundry Loads with Care
Don’t run a bunch of small loads in your clothes washer, try to only start a load when there’s a reasonable amount of clothes. Automatic washers can sometimes take longer when the drum is overstuffed, too.
