Nothing gets you in the spirit for Halloween quite like a good horror movie. So far, 2023 has been the birth year of many frightening films. More are still to come, especially as All Hallow’s Eve arrives for real later this month. Knock at the Cabin
A major draw of this movie is the cast. Seeing former wrestler and blockbuster mainstay Dave Bautista in a more dramatic role has plenty of pull, as is the opportunity to see former Harry Potter supporting actor Rupert Grint return to the big screen.
Scream VI
Fans of the Scream franchise haven’t been inundated with installments like some longer running horror series, making Scream VI’s arrival a welcome one, and one with a generally high approval rating.
Evil Dead Rise
Another long-running franchise is the Evil Dead series of horror movies. Promising the same brutality the series has been known for, Evil Dead Rise was mostly appreciated by critics upon release. Now, the movie can be rented, bought, or seen with a subscription on several of the biggest streaming outlets.
Beau is Afraid
Shift gears from gore and blood to a more psychological thrill in Beau is Afraid. Coming from the artsy A24 film studio, this movie promises a different experience than most Hollywood movies tend to deliver. Critics didn’t over-praise it, but you might find it strikes all the right chords for you.
The Nun II
Released back in September 2023, this next step for the Conjuring universe may still be in theaters in some areas come Halloween 2023. When it arrives on streaming services is up in the air right now, but it is sure to see plenty of re-watching over the years as part of the expanding horror movie continuity.
